How to sign up for Kalshi: you create an account on Kalshi's official sign-up page, complete any identity verification it asks for, then fund the account with a supported payment method. The whole Kalshi sign up process is usually short, but approval depends on Kalshi's review of your application, and funding is a separate step that comes after your account is open. This guide walks through each stage in plain language and points you to Kalshi's official help pages, which are always the source of truth.

Quick answer

  • To sign up you need to be 18 or older and provide basic personal information on Kalshi's official sign-up page.
  • Kalshi may ask you to verify your identity with a document during the application. Follow the instructions in your account.
  • Funding is a separate step: once your account is open, you choose a deposit method on the Transfers page.
  • Fees, minimums and limits can change. As of October 2026, the figures below come from Kalshi's Help Center.
  • Kalshi's official pages are the source of truth. Check them before you start, because this area changes quickly.

Before You Sign Up: Requirements and Eligibility

Before opening an account, it helps to know what Kalshi expects from individual users. According to Kalshi's Help Center, you must be at least 18 years old and pass a document verification if one is requested. During the application you may be asked to upload an identity document, and approval depends on how Kalshi reviews your application.

Kalshi also explains why it asks for personal details: the information is collected to comply with applicable US laws and the rules of the CFTC, the federal regulator that oversees US derivatives markets. If you want background on how these exchanges fit into US regulation, our guide to how prediction markets work is a good starting point.

Availability depends on where you live. Kalshi says it is accessible internationally, but some jurisdictions remain restricted, and each user is responsible for making sure their use is lawful in their location. We do not list specific countries or states here, because those rules change. Before you start, open Kalshi's official sign-up page and its "Signing Up as an Individual" help article and confirm the current requirements there.

A few practical things to have ready:

  • An email address you check regularly.
  • Your legal name exactly as it appears on your bank or card accounts.
  • A mobile phone number that is not a VoIP number, in case you later link a bank account.
  • A few minutes of uninterrupted time, in case verification is requested right away.

How to Sign Up for Kalshi

The sign-up flow itself is simple. Here is what to expect, step by step:

  1. Go to Kalshi's official sign-up page. Type the address yourself or use the official app from your device's app store. Avoid links from unknown sites or social media messages, which can lead to look-alike pages.
  2. Enter your basic personal information. Kalshi asks for details such as your name and contact information so it can create the account and meet its legal obligations. Use your real legal name, since it must match the payment methods you will use later.
  3. Create your login credentials. Choose a strong, unique password. If Kalshi offers extra security options, such as two-step verification, it is sensible to turn them on.
  4. Check your email for any additional steps. Kalshi may send a confirmation link or instructions. Open them from the official Kalshi email and finish anything that is requested.
  5. Complete verification if requested. If Kalshi asks for a document, follow the on-screen instructions. The next section explains what to expect.

Once these steps are done, your application goes through Kalshi's review. Some users are approved quickly; others may be asked for more information. Timing varies, so follow the status shown in your account.

Identity Verification: What to Expect

Identity verification is a normal part of opening an account on a regulated US exchange. Kalshi's Help Center says you may be asked for an ID document during the application and that a document verification must be passed if it is requested. Not every application looks the same, so do not assume you will or will not be asked.

Why does Kalshi collect this information? As noted above, it says the details are gathered to comply with US law and CFTC rules. In practice, verification helps confirm that the person opening the account is who they say they are and is eligible to use the service.

We are deliberately not listing which documents Kalshi accepts, whether a Social Security number is required, or how long approval takes. Those details are not confirmed in the official pages we rely on, and they can change. Instead:

  • Follow the instructions shown inside your Kalshi account.
  • Make sure photos of any document are clear, well lit and uncropped.
  • Use the same name across your Kalshi account, your bank and your cards.
  • If something is unclear, contact Kalshi support through its official Help Center.

How to Fund Your Kalshi Account

After your account is open, Kalshi funding happens from the Transfers page. As of October 2026, Kalshi lists seven deposit methods: debit card (including Apple Pay and Google Pay), bank transfer (ACH), PayPal, Venmo, Cash App, crypto and wire transfer.

The Kalshi minimum deposit is $10 for most methods. Wire transfers are the exception, with a $1,000 minimum. Your individual limits vary by account and method, and Kalshi shows them on the Transfers page. One important rule: deposits cannot be canceled or refunded once you submit them, so double-check the amount before confirming.

Kalshi also applies name-matching rules. Bank accounts must be in your name, PayPal and Venmo accounts must match the name on your Kalshi account, and wires sent from an account in a different name can be delayed or returned.

Bank transfer (ACH)$10No feeUS only; linked through partners such as Plaid or Aeropay; usually settles within 5 business days

A few more details from Kalshi's Help Center:

  • Bank deposits carry no fees. Funds usually take about 1–4 business days to leave your bank and typically settle within 5 business days. Eligible accounts may get part of the deposit credited right away. Bank deposits are US-only, cannot be canceled once started, and VoIP phone numbers are not accepted when linking a bank.
  • Card deposits accept Visa, Mastercard and Discover debit cards, plus Apple Pay and Google Pay. American Express is not supported. Debit deposits may incur a 2% processing fee, the cardholder name must match your Kalshi name, and Kalshi asks you to turn off any VPN before depositing.

Kalshi Fees: Deposits, Trading and Withdrawals

Kalshi fees fall into three groups: what it costs to move money in, what it costs to trade, and what it costs to move money out.

Deposits. Bank deposits have no fees, while debit card deposits may carry a 2% processing fee. Check the Transfers page for the exact cost of each method on your account.

Trading. Under the Kalshi fee schedule effective July 7, 2026, trading fees depend on the number of contracts and the price. In plain language:

  • Taker fee (when your order fills immediately against an existing order): 0.07 × number of contracts × price × (1 − price), rounded up.
  • Maker fee (when your resting order is later filled by someone else): 0.0175 × number of contracts × price × (1 − price), rounded up.

Rounding is applied to a centicent (one hundredth of a cent) on the fee plus the cost of the position. Maker fees only apply when a resting order actually executes; canceling a resting order costs nothing.

Worked example. Say you buy 100 contracts at 50 cents ($0.50):

  • Taker fee = 0.07 × 100 × 0.50 × 0.50 = $1.75.
  • Maker fee = 0.0175 × 100 × 0.50 × 0.50 = $0.4375 before Kalshi's rounding rule is applied.

Because the formula uses price × (1 − price), fees are highest for contracts priced near 50 cents and shrink as the price moves toward 1 cent or 99 cents. Some markets have different fees, and the schedule can change, so treat the official Kalshi fee schedule as the final word. To get a feel for how fees affect your results, you can experiment with our prediction market fee calculator, keeping in mind that it is built around Polymarket's rates.

Withdrawals. As of October 2026, bank, debit card and crypto withdrawals have no fees, according to Kalshi's Help Center.

How to Withdraw From Kalshi

Learning how to withdraw from Kalshi is mostly about choosing a method and understanding holds. Withdrawal options include debit card, crypto and wire transfer, plus bank transfer for US users. Non-US users are limited to debit card, crypto and wire.

Typical Kalshi withdrawal time depends on the method:

  • Bank transfer (US only): no fees; typically arrives within a few business days.
  • Debit card: no fees; typically arrives within a few hours, though timing can vary by card issuer. There is a daily limit personalized to your account.
  • Crypto: no fees; typically arrives within about 30 minutes, but you must have made a crypto deposit first.

Security holds. After a deposit, some funds may be held briefly before you can withdraw them. Debit card, Apple Pay, Google Pay and bank deposits become available once the deposit settles, and that can take up to 2 days if you withdraw using a different method. PayPal, Venmo, Cash App, crypto and wire deposits have no hold. Earnings beyond what you deposited can be withdrawn once they settle, but money tied up in open positions is unavailable until those positions close.

Referral credits are not cash. You cannot withdraw them directly; only profits made by trading with them can be withdrawn.

Is There a Kalshi Sign-Up Bonus?

Kalshi does not advertise a simple, fixed sign-up bonus for everyone. What it does run is a referral program. As of October 2026, Kalshi's Help Center describes it like this:

  • Existing users can share a referral link or code from the app menu.
  • The person referred must sign up, complete identity verification and meet trading requirements.
  • Reward amounts depend on the program that applies to the account, so we do not quote any figure.
  • The program is for US users only.
  • A code can only be added within 72 hours of creating your account, and only before your first deposit.
  • There is a lifetime cap on referral earnings.
  • Referral credits must be used within 7 days of being issued unless stated otherwise.
  • Credits are for trading, not cash. Only profits made with them can be withdrawn.

If you plan to use a Kalshi referral, add it early, before funding your account, and read the current terms on Kalshi's official referral FAQ. Treat any credit as a small trading allowance, not as free money, and never trade more than you can afford to lose to "unlock" a reward.

Common Mistakes and What to Do If Something Goes Wrong

Most sign-up and funding problems come from a few predictable issues:

  • Name mismatch on a payment method. If your bank, card, PayPal or Venmo name does not match your Kalshi account, deposits can fail and wires can be delayed or returned. Use payment methods in your own legal name.
  • Using a VoIP phone number when linking a bank. Kalshi does not accept VoIP numbers for bank linking. Use a standard mobile number.
  • Leaving a VPN on during card deposits. Kalshi asks users to turn off VPNs before card deposits. Disconnect it and try again.
  • Deposit declined. Check that the card is a supported debit card (Visa, Mastercard or Discover, not American Express), that the name matches, and that you are within your limits on the Transfers page. If it still fails, try another supported method or contact Kalshi support.
  • Withdrawal on hold. Recent deposits may be under a security hold until they settle, and money in open positions is unavailable. Wait for settlement or for positions to close, then try again.
  • Forgetting that deposits are final. Deposits cannot be canceled or refunded after you submit them, so confirm the amount carefully.

If none of these explain the issue, use Kalshi's official Help Center rather than third-party "support" accounts, which are a common source of scams.

Quick Checklist Before Your First Trade

  • Your account is approved and any requested verification is complete.
  • Your payment method is in your own name and your deposit has settled.
  • You have read the current Kalshi fee schedule and understand taker versus maker fees.
  • You know how prices translate into probabilities. Our guide on how odds and probabilities work explains it.
  • You have set a budget you can afford to lose.

When you are ready to place an order, our beginner guide on how to place your first trade walks through the basics of buying, selling and limit orders. The mechanics are similar across exchanges, although the guide uses Polymarket as its example.
